Boho weddings allow you to have the wedding you want, not the wedding you’re told to have. With romantic and personal touches, bohemian weddings free effortless and carefree, but also stylish and unique. Planning a boho wedding can seem daunting because the most important aspect of a boho wedding is the details. There are so many directions you can go, too. From the desert to the mountains, from a rustic church to an industrial space, boho weddings are anywhere and encompass any style.
1. Dress – First things first, the dress! Your wedding dress really sets the tone for the whole wedding. Choosing a dress with a strong lace pattern will give your wedding a romantic, boho feeling. 2.Flowers – Flowers are an important element to every wedding, but at a boho wedding, they place an even more crucial role. Hand-tied arrangements are especially beautiful and lend an organic wedding to a boho nuptial. When choosing flowers, remember that sometimes a color palette isn’t always as important as the movement different flowers create. Choose flowers with different textures, colors, heights and lengths with plenty of greenery for a completely boho bouquet. Finish your bouquet with a silk, frayed ribbon or piece of burlap.
3. Hair – Once you’ve picked out the perfect boho wedding dress, next comes your hair. 4. Makeup – By keeping your makeup simple and clean, you can achieve a boho look that is still timeless. Try to stay away from false lashes that are too heavy and thick and go for a more natural look. Give your cheeks a glowy look with plenty of bronzer and dewy highlighter. Finish your makeup with a light pink lip shade or deep red tone for a perfectly boho style.
5. Venue – Maybe the second most important element to a boho wedding after the dress is the venue. Whether you want an industrial chic wedding or a rustic barn ceremony, venues allow you to be creative with your ‘I do’. Think about how much decorating you want to do at a venue and how the layout will impact the timeline of events. Do you want to have your ceremony and reception at the same? Do you want guests to be able to stay on the property during your wedding weekend? What about catering or transportation? For a boho wedding, look for a venue with character. Look for unique elements like exposed beams, stone floors, sky lights, and an indoor/outdoor spaces that can lend themselves to your bohemian wedding theme.
6. Groom – Your groom’s style is just an important as your own on your special day. What we love so much about boho weddings, is how they seem to reflect the style of both the groom and the bride. Ask your groom if he’s up for wearing a bow tie for the wedding, adding a whimsical touch. If you’re wearing an effortless lace boho wedding dress, forgo the traditional tux for your guy, and instead opt for a grey suit with no jacket.
7. Bridesmaids – Keep the boho theme going by having your bridesmaids in boho style gowns. Off-the-shoulder styles with flowy silhouettes are the idea look for your bridal party. In soft lavender or a neutral mix-and-match palette, your squad will match your boho style perfectly!
8. Invites – Invitations are a great way for you to convey the boho theme to your guests. It is the first thing guests will see before coming to your wedding – unless you’ve been all over Pinterest! Try water colored paper with scripted lettering for an outdoor wedding. For an industrial chic boho wedding, go with monochromatic invited in grey, black and white with block letters. Pro tip: have the same designer do all of your paper stock from the invited to the seating cards for a cohesive look.
9. Food – Whether you realize it or not, food can give your wedding an unexpected boho element. Forgo the usual meat and veggies dinner and instead serve whatever your favorite foods as a couple are! Maybe your fiance proposed after a favorite meal, or you on a date you cooked something special, try recreating it for your dinner. Bonus points if you can incorporate the farm-to-table movement at your reception.
10. Decor – Don’t overlook decor when it comes to your boho wedding. A great backdrop behind your sweetheart table made of reclaimed wood can be fun and whimsical. Add hanging light for a more intimate feeling. For a desert chic wedding, add cacti and succulents to the tables with brightly colors pinatas hanging from the ceiling.
