The Bridal Cottage Blog

8-27-2014

You may recall our Blog from November titled, "Perfecting the Mismatched Bridesmaid Look!" in which we discussed guidelines for a cohesive mismatched bridesmaid look. We recommended that clarifying a specific designer, fabric and color were all essential in creating and perfecting your ladies' look!

However, the times, they have changed! All of the aforementioned rules have gone out the window and we are waiving 'Goodbye' in the most fashionable way (no pun intended)! As opposed to selecting a specific color, brides are now selecting a color scheme or theme, which allows her bridesmaids to select a color or color shade within that theme.

In doing so, this allows the individual bridesmaids to select a color or hue that is more flattering for her skin tone and also, a color that has more potential to be worn again in the future!

So, what about fabric? The Bridal Cottage consultants suggest that keeping a consistent fabric is still ideal, however there are fabrics in which subtle variations will still give you a cohesive look.

For example, Bridal Cottage bridesmaid designer Mori Lee offers chiffon dresses in one of two options: Lux or Regular chiffon. In the past, we've seen brides stick to one type of chiffon or another. Now brides are choosing to select styles from both and are even mixing shades of colors within both fabric options.

Bridesmaids designers like Sorella Vita (also available at The Bridal Cottage) have begun to incorporate more than one fabric into a style. Sorella Vita will mix together satin and chiffon or lace and chiffon, allowing for a bride to give her bridesmaids the option of wearing a fabric combination or selecting one of the two fabrics, again allowing her bridesmaids to select a style more flattering for their body type in which they can wear again in the future.

Another trend that we've seen emerge recently has been one centered around a color theme. A popular color theme that we're hearing about in store includes peacock feathers or jewel tones. A bride selecting this theme has, oftentimes, given her ladies the option of wearing a color within a group. Jewel-tone colors include deep blues, purples and shades of green.

Consultants suggest narrowing down color options in selected fabrics for your ladies before they select their dress style, so that they know which dress style options come within their color! If you do decide to mix designers to achieve the desired color combination of your choice, specify to your ladies (or allow your consultant to inform your bridesmaids) about which dress options are available for each color!

Mixing your bridesmaids' dresses is a new and fun way to make your wedding more of your own! It is also another way to allow your bridesmaids to have more freedom in their attire but also to feel more included in the planning process! Here at The Bridal Cottage, we would love to help you perfect your original bridal party look!
